Symantec Continues to Lead U.S. Retail Software Market

Cupertino, Calif --September 25, 1998-- Symantec Corporation (Nasdaq: SYMC) reinforced its leadership position in the U.S. retail software market, according to the latest report released by independent market intelligence firm, PC Data. For the month of August, Symantec held five of the top ten positions for best-selling business software.

Symantec was the first software vendor to have five of the top ten products on PC Data's business software list (February 1998), and is the only vendor to have repeatedly achieved this distinction (March and August 1998). In August, the Symantec products in the top ten list were Norton AntiVirus 4.0, Norton Utilities 3.0, Norton AntiVirus 5.0, pcAnywhere 32 and Winfax Pro 9.0. In addition, two of those products, Norton AntiVirus 5.0 and Winfax Pro 9.0, entered the top ten the month they were released.
