Symantec is committed to promoting responsible operation, not only in our own offices and facilities, but also throughout our supply chain. We reiterate this commitment through our support for the ten principles of the United Nations Global Compact, especially those that speak to fair labor practices and anti-corruption.
In FY10, we will embark upon an extensive review of our existing supply chain management practices, and will conduct a series of discussions both internally and externally to better shape our approach in the future. We plan to evaluate existing Symantec supplier guidelines and standards as well as the management mechanisms currently in place to ensure supplier adherence to these guidelines. We will also formally identify the opportunities for Symantec, such as capturing innovation, meeting customer expectations, and increasing efficiencies that could result from a more-formalized approach.
Supplier Diversity
Symantec understands the value and importance of having a diverse network of suppliers. Symantec is committed to continuously enhancing our methods of outreach and reporting and identifying additional opportunities for our valued suppliers. By turning to innovators, visionaries, and other high achievers with varied backgrounds, experiences, and perspectives--our employees, our partners, and our suppliers--we foster an environment where uniqueness is valued and empowered.
In 2008 we nominated one of our suppliers for the National Minority Supplier Development Council Supplier of the Year, an award they subsequently received. As we continue to develop supplier diversity opportunities, we will consider whether to establish our own, Symantec-based supplier diversity award program.
We are currently exploring the expansion of our supplier diversity program to encompass international initiatives.

Highlights of our commitment to supplier diversity:
- Symantec currently outsources 100 percent of the U.S. manufacturing of our consumer, availability, and enterprise software products to a certified Minority Business Enterprise/Small Business Enterprise, a subcontract that is valued at over four percent of Symantec's annual U.S. qualified spend on suppliers.
- We have several significant relationships with women-owned and minority-owned firms for various areas of indirect spending and Value-Added Reseller relationships, such as consulting and software purchases.
- Symantec’s Supplier Diversity Program was recently featured in the “Leading Supplier Diversity Executives” issue of the Profiles In Diversity Journal.
